Accommodation is here easy to find and costs about 35 PLN. In the 16th century Bialowieza became a royal hunting reserve. The Tsar Castle houses the Museum of Nature of the Bialowieski National Park together with an observation tower. The castle can be reached through a footbridge placed between two beautiful ponds. Among various species of trees and bushes there is also masterly ornamented hunting manor that previously belonged to the tsar Alexander II. Behind one of the gates of the Park one can also admire the Orthodox church of Saint Nicholas of Myra with its amazing iconostasis made of porcelain. The museum is a non-profit initiative that serves preservation of tangible and intangible culture of this region. At the end of the Żebro Żubra (Wisent’s rib) tourist trail visitors have a unique opportunity to see wisents and konik in their natural habitat (the reserve is open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm). The trail runs further through mainly marshy woods to the sunny meadows full of horsetails and moss. Most of the species are described on the information boards. In the evenings the meadows of Bialowieza are covered with a mysterious blanket of fog. 2 km away from Bialowieza one can rest in the Tsar Restaurant located in the buildings of a former railway station, where the taste of food equals their prices.
